Welcome to this recent railway photographic gallery. Hopefully pictures will be added when time permits, most images are of ‘classic’ traction, with some steam, some ‘modern’ and anything else that catches my eye.
‘The Northern Heights’ refers to a geographical area of north London where I live. This high ground has to be negotiated by the ECML, North London Line, Barking to Gospel Oak line and the branch lines that used to emanate from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace, Edgware and High Barnet, now part of the Northern Line.
Many of the photo’s here are from the London area but I also like to try different places such as the Midlands, East Anglian and South Wales areas – chasing ‘heritage’ traction while it lasts.
Mostly I find myself drawn to industrial or urban landscapes – factories, canals, back to back housing and the like. A major influence is Colin T Gifford with his 1960s gritty images of railways as part of the landscape.
More recent additions include a collection of archive photos of north London ECML stations and infrastructure.
I presently use Nikon D300, D70 and Coolpix 7900 cameras. Slides (mostly Fujichrome) were taken with Nikon F80 and Yashica cameras are scanned with a Minolta Dimage 5400 scanner.
Finally, many thanks to all those who post railway gen, it's much appreciated.
